Aamir is hailed as a perfectionist and the first question you would want to ask him after watching this movie is – where exactly were you when they were reading the screenplay?
The movie belongs to the fictional freedom fighters genre . Trust me there have been better entertainers in this genre from Bollywood. My personal favourite is Mard from Manmohan Desai and in my very personal opinion , Raja Azaad Singh delivered far better in your face spunk than Khudabaksh (the strongest asset of this movie) and goosebumps in that epic scene where he stops a plane with a bare rope and a pillar to support.
The story is about a seaside riyasat called Raunakpur being captured by a treacherous Clive. In the process he bumps off entire family of the ruler Nawab leaving behind a daughter who along with Khudabaksh avenges their death and wins freedom for Raunakpur. The movie is also made interesting by the addition of the chameleon Friangi ( the director thought this was an interesting character), only the audience does not seem to find anything interesting.
The imaginative capabilities of the director are brought forward by the fact that in the climax you have the heroine’s dance and then the villain asking for his escape ship. The last time I saw that was in Karma when Sridevi]s dance caused Dr.Dang’s downfall.
Aamir Khan’s conscious is like an automatic bathroom geaser which goes now hot now cold as per the dynamics of the water content. Katrina Kaif is the only one who seems to be the smart one in this movie for two dances and three scenes am told she charged a whopper.
The movie has a background music which goes hayya hayya hutt, about 45 minutes after the movie post every hayya hayya it is you who wants to scream abbey hutt .This movie also pays major respect to Vikram Bhatt where there is a eagle/falcon which keeps flying across the skies all the time. The eagle is also part guiding star of the whole movie and also an indication of the way the screenplay was written, as the eagle moves in big circles all the time so is the screenplay ,so while a large amount of movement is done there is no distance covered.
Even Ila Arun is miscast , she is used as the village doctor while she could have done a better job doing ooh and aahs while Katrina danced , the casting director needs to be fired immediately for reducing whatever paisa vasool element this movie could have had.
This movie is like your city’s high value sweet shop which increases prices and lowers quality at Diwali and if you don’t get it then family is sulking. So if you have a possessive dominating girlfriend who is an Aamir fan then this movie, trust me, is your best revenge opportunity.
Half star for that poor falcon or eagle who seems to be the only one doing some work in this movie and if that is a CGI generated bird then please read the rating as zero !
